World AIDS Day

I feel quite fortunate that I have not lost many friends to AIDS. Most of my good fortune likely comes from the fact that I came out later in life, after AIDS prevention efforts were in place, and most of my friends were practicing safer sex.

But some of my older friends are not so fortunate. Some of them have lost many friends to AIDS, and so in solidarity I am observing a moment of silence in their honor, and suggest you do the same.
Since my little seaside area has a higher-than-usual percentage of GLBT residents, there are several World AIDS Day activities going on today:
  • HIV+ artists exhibit and reception
  • candlelight vigil
  • Service of Remembrance and Hope
  • Dinner (following Service)

Are you participating in any World AIDS Day activities?

I, too, dodged that bullet. I do have HIV+ friends so I'm sure my day is forthcoming. Regardless though, it's a day to stop and remember. Thanks for this. Behr hugs!

Living in NYC in the 80s, the crisis touched my life regularly. I went to far too many funerals in the mid to late 80s. I remember all the time, but days like today can be particularly tough.

I would not be the man I am today if not due to some of those I met back in the 80s when I was a young lad that just came out....they are no longer with us but they are in our hearts forever....
