Progress in VT

I tell ya, if it weren't for those cold, cold winters, I'd be really tempted to move to VT. They are becoming a model of diversity, equality, and fairness for all their residents.

Vermont Senate passes same-sex marriage bill
By 365gay Newscenter Staff

(Montpelier, Vermont) The Vermont Senate passed legislation Monday that would legalize same-sex marriage in the state. The bill passed 26-4.

It now moves to the House where supporters believe it is likely to be approved. But whether Vermont Gov. James Douglas (R) will sign it is unknown.

The measure would replace Vermont’s first-in-the-nation civil unions law with one that allows marriage of same-sex partners beginning Sept. 1. Civil unions, which confer some rights similar to marriage, would still be recognized but no longer granted after Sept. 1.

Did you notice that? VT is replacing their existing civil union law with a marriage equality law!!! Read the entire article here.

A highlight of the the hearing is shown in this video of 17 year old James Neiley who testified.

James Neiley is the voice of his generation, and I hope they are listening.
This is one of those Baby Steps I'm so fond of pointing out.

One little, teeny tiny state at a time.

Of course the National Organization for Marriage had to send out an email about it.

I posted the email along with links on my blog. Use their site to send your message of support. Be subversive!

Great news out of Vermont! I hope it breezes through the House. And that 17-year-old is amazing! :)

How cold is it, really? Is it that bad? I'm fed up with the heat here in South Carolina, and the University of Vermont in Burlington has a compelling grad program I'd like to investigate. I am a bit nervous about those winters, though.

Chuck is cute!

I love New England but would be concerned about the winters, too.

As a New Hampshire-ite I love me some Vermont! How can you not love a state that is home to Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory and the best maple syrup??

NH still has progress to be made, hopefully being surrounded by MA and VT will help nudge us in the right direction!

The winters really aren't so bad. This year has been pretty intense, it gets to be bad when it lasts this long. I remember being outside on my porch in mid March for my birthday getting ready to hit the pinata and snow would start falling! Haha.

I miss my home state. Show these silly Californians how it is done! Live FREE or Die is the NH way :)
