Bugs & Roger arrived late afternoon on Fri so we kicked off the weekend with sidecar martinis. Then we met up with 'the usual suspects' for Fri Night Dinner. Once home again we hung out and caught up on each other's goings-on.Sat morning Bugs, Roger and I enjoyed coffee, English muffins, music, and newspaper/magazine reading while Spouse went to his personal trainer appointment. Later we went to my favorite lunch spot: Cafe Sole, where I had my usual: fried oyster BLT with melted brie. It is HEAVEN!
Then we walked down the street to the new Italian deli and bakery called Touch of Italy to look around and sampled some wonderful cheeses. Spouse bought some chocolate eclairs for later. Back at the house we hung out with our friends until it was time to go to the movies. We went to see an indie film called "Hollywood, je t'aime" sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society. It was cute, but seemed to kinda plod along. There really wasn't much in the way of 'peaks and valleys'; it was more like a 90 minute plateau, but still enjoyable. An interesting side note for me was recognizing Michael Airington in the film. I met him years ago in Washington DC. He moved to LA to get into acting. Looks like he did it! Afterward the film we met up with Steven & Thad for dinner at Saketumi. Again, I had my favorite: Panang Curry Chicken. The food, service, and atmosphere are always terrific at Saketumi.Sun morning Steven & Thad came over and the 6 of us had brunch of blueberry pancakes, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits, fruit salad, juice and coffee. We had a lot of fun, and began making some spring travel plans (day trips) with our friends. Shortly after 1:00 we said our goodbyes to Bugs & Roger, followed shortly by Steven & Thad. Spouse & I ran a few quick errands then returned home so Spouse could take a nap while I caught up on some email. We just relaxed the rest of the evening, and watched "Once". Like the film we saw the night before, this one also lacked the necessary plot contrasts to keep you engaged. It was a sweet story and the original musical performances were good.Yet again, it seems the weekend flew by. Hope you had a great one.Crush du Jour: Ryan Paevey
So far, our new year has started off with a few pleasant surprises. (I love surprises.)
Surprise #1
We accepted a New Year's Eve party invitation and then began having doubts about the party because I didn't recognize any names or email addresses on the e-vite. I thought it might be boring and/or lame to be at this party for 4+ hours, waiting for midnight with a roomful of strangers. But quite to the contrary, the time passed quickly and we had a ball. We met 2 couples who live near where we used to live in VA, and they were very nice. They have a house here for summers and weekends, very much like we did before we moved here. We also met another couple who live here full time who are very close to our age! We share some mutual interests so I can see us becoming friends in the new year. We also met the parents of one of our hosts and we got a big kick out of them. They've lived here for many years and know everyone. We had a really good time, which was kind of a surprise.
Surprise #2
After sleeping in until 10:30 on Thurs, we had a leisurely morning, then went for an afternoon drive in Big Ella.
I feel like I'm finally getting better acquainted with her since I'm finally able to drive her around. Spouse & I drove through a community where our friends Marty & John have a house. (They live in VA but have a summer and weekend home here.) We saw a car in their driveway so we slowed down. Just as we did, we saw Marty bound out of the house, waving for us to come in. We parked in the driveway and got out to say hi. Marty was excited to finally see Big Ella, since he is also a vintage car enthusiast. He owns this 1959 Edsel:
After looking Big Ella he invited us in to meet their house guests Johnny and Sebastian. We had coffee and talked for a while, then the 6 of us went to dinner at Dos Locos. After dinner we ran home to feed Jordan and let her out, then we went back to Marty & John's and watched 'Enchanted' with them. Quite an enjoyable surprise.
Surprise #3
While eating at Dos Locos, one of the owners noticed Marty & John (who are regular customers there) and stopped at our table to say hi. I instantly recognized him as Jeff, a guy I'd met the previous Sat at karaoke. I had no idea he was one of the owners of Dos Locos, so it was quite a surprise to run into him there, and to learn that he was a friend of John & Marty.
Surprise #4
While Spouse & I were out running an errand today we got a call from Randy & Dean who said they were in town for an unplanned shopping trip. We've not seen them since New Years Eve of last year when we had dinner at their house with Rick & Nick. They live in Salisbury, about an hour away, and decided to take advantage of the tax-free clearance shopping at the Rehoboth outlets. Since it was nearly lunch time I suggested we have lunch together. We had a lovely lunch at our favorite lunch spot in Rehoboth, Cafe Sole, and got caught up on each other's lives. It was a lovely surprise to hear from them, and I was thrilled we weren't already booked.
I wonder what other surprises await me in 2009?

Jordan had another difficult night last night, and this morning we discovered she'd been biting a place near her tail to the point that it was very irritated and there was some blood. So this morning Spouse called in sick, made an appointment at the vet, and took Jordan to get checked out. Turns out the poor girl has an infection and a rash, from an unknown source. They shaved the area she'd been biting and licking, exposing a very irritated, pink, swollen spot. The vet gave her a steroid shot, prescribed antibiotics, and gave Spouse some medicated powder to apply to the area when needed. Jordan is obviously not feeling well. Her energy level is much lower than usual, but at least she's not scratching at herself like before. Hopefully the antibiotics will clear up the infection and she'll return to her normal self again. When Spouse returned from the vet it was lunchtime. Again, the weather is absolutely unbelievable: sunny and 81 degrees, so we decided to put the top down on the convertible and 'treat' ourselves to lunch at our favorite lunch spot: Cafe Sole. We've been eating there for about 7-8 years, and almost always get the same thing. Spouse loves the Turkey Stuffer, which is basically Thanksgiving dinner on a roll. I am enamored by the Fried Oyster BLT with melted brie. Its heaven on a plate! It is so gorgeous outside I was quite tempted to play hookie the rest of the afternoon. But I knew I had a conference call at 2:00 and figured I might was well finish out the day. So Spouse is taking a nap and I am back to work now.I have my work out this evening at 5:00.Drag Queen name of the day: Sheila Gree
